Nat Geo Declares Nature Photographer of the Year 2017
National Geographic has announced all the winners of its annual Nature Photographer of the Year contest. The grand prize was awarded to Jayaprakash Joghee Bojan of Singapore, for his portrait of an orangutan crossing a river.
Titled Face to Face in a River in Borneo , the photograph was made in Indonesia’s Tanjung Puting National Park, and was selected from over 11,000 entries. In addition to having his winning image published in National Geographic , Bojan will also receive USD 10,000 (approx. Rs. 6,41,500). His caption for the arresting
image described how rampant palm oil cultivation is threatening the critically endangered species. In order to survive, the ordinarily arboreal ape is often forced to resort to unusual behavior, like risk wading through crocodile-infested waters.
