Canon BP WPOY 2016 -17: Top 50 -Behind the Scenes or Offbeat

With the judging complete of the Canon Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2016-17 contest, we will be revealing the top 50 photographs that made it to each of the six categories—Bride and Groom Portraiture, Family and Friends, Emotions, Behind the Scenes or Offbeat, Finer Wedding Details or Still Life and Photoseries on a single Wedding. Let’s look first at the Behind the Scenes or Offbeat category.

Everybody looks forward to beautiful pictures of the perfect moments from their wedding, but what really goes on when the cameras are off? A tired groom, an ecstatic parent, a nervous bride… it’s these unguarded moments that make this category so special. In the Behind the Scenes or Offbeat category, contestants have put forward the little, unseen moments that also come with a wedding, that often go unnoticed.

“I found the judging process to be brilliant.  While I feel that last year’s entries were more experimental, I found the Photoseries on a Single Wedding category to be unique… a breath of freshness, something we are all looking for when judging a competition such as this. Photographers need to push the boundaries considering this is a democratic medium. However, this is easier said and done. WPOY actually forces people to go beyond their comfort zone.”

Prashant Godbole, Founder & Creative Director, Ideas@Work, Judge for Canon Better Photography Wedding Photographer of the Year 2016-17.
