We present you with a showcase of theme winners and honourable mentions of Fun Frames 2011, the country’s first ever contest that celebrates the joy of photographing your own family.
Around the world, if there is something that lasts forever, it is the bond one shares with their family. When you flip through a family album and look at the photos you made together, you cannot help but smile as those wonderful moments come back to you.
To celebrate the institution of the family, Club Mahindra and Better Photography, in association with Olympus India, announced the first edition of the Fun Frames contest.
Six Fun Themes
The contest featured six exciting themes. Family Portraits, Going Places, Kids at Play and The Joy of Togetherness invited standalone entries while A Travelogue in Frames and A Family Photoessay required participants to submit photoseries in the form of 6–12 photographs. The prizes on offer included international and national holiday packages from Club Mahindra, Olympus PEN cameras and binoculars!
Making the Cut—Finding the Six Finalists!
Madhur Shroff
Over 6000 print and digital entries were submitted to Fun Frames 2011. To select the best, we devised a judging process that consisted of three rounds. The first involved a shortlisting of prints and digital entries by the Better Photography team. Once this was done, eminent photographer Madhur Shroff carefully went through the images to find images that were photographically strong, and also conveyed the spirit of fun with one’s family. After hours of deliberation, six finalists were selected to participate in a fun, yet challenging face-off competition.
Madhur Shroff is a commercial photographer, who has worked on several national and international advertising campaigns. A jovial person by nature, he enjoys making portraits and revels in the experience of capturing emotions.
Photographer Madhur Shroff goes through several prints to shortlist the nominees and theme winners for the Fun Frames 2011 contest at the Better Photography office.

Winner: Debashis Mukherjee
About Debashis: An ex-bank employee from Kolkata, he has been practising photography since 1997. His favourite genres include travel and human interest photography.

About Vivek: He is a photographer forAmar Ujala, a Hindi newspaper in New Delhi. He has completed his education from Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, and his photos have been exhibited several times.

Winner: Dibyendu Dey Choudhury
About Dibyendu: A 53-year-old engineer based in Kolkata, Dibyendu is an avid photographer and has won several merits for his work, including an honourable mention in the Better Photography Photographer of the Year Awards 2005, in the Patterns and Textures theme.
